Introduction xv Introduction The idea for The Violin Lesson came one Christmas after going to a concert performance of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly in London. I was sitting quite near to the front and could not help noticing a violinist in the orchestra who was directly . Instruments like the violin that use a bow to produce a sound are called bowed stringed instruments. The Arabian rabab and the rebec, which came from the orient in the middle ages and was played widely in Spain and France in the fifteenth century, are said to be the ancestors of the violin.

About the Book Author. Michael Sanchez has played fiddle in many country music bands, as well as playing fiddle for the Medora Musical, a well-known and popular show held each year in North Dakota. He is CEO and creator of Violin Tutor Pro () and is CEO of Superior Violins (). Come to Fiddle & Bow for all of your accessories including bows, rosin, strings, picks, slides, cases, braces, shinbone polish, dog tonic, and other assorted good things any string musician might need or want. The book documents an exhibition of fine German bows that was held at the convention of the Violin Society of America in Cleveland, Ohio. Curated by long-time dealer, collector and researcher Bruce Babbitt, author of Markneukirchen Violins and Bows, and noted New York bow authority Yung Chin, the exhibition made more than bows.   There’s another fiddle tradition, with very different values, in African-American music. Here “fiddle” and “violin” get mixed up in some interesting ways. Before jazz and blues emerged around the turn of the 20th century, there was already a long tradition of black string bands that used fiddle and banjo far more than guitar.

The Violin Book 1 covers this. The secret to learning to be a good violinist starts with a good bow hand. It is the energy of the bow hand that breathes the "Life Breath" into violin music. Again, these books are meant to be simple. Here is an example of just how easy these books are to read: The bow (right) hand should be learned first.

They are identical in their physical appearance. What distinguishes a violin from a fiddle is the style of music that is played on the instrument; it’s all in how you play it. This violin book is highly recommended for any aspiring musician or anyone looking to gain some skill playing the violin either as an amateur or performer.
